How Do I Build a Home Theater?

You go and see a movie once a week with your wife because you’re both movie buffs. So, between the tickets, popcorn, and soda, you spend over $120 a month on movies. After a year of that, you’ve spent clear over a thousand dollars. This doesn’t add on to the amount of money you spend in rentals each month because you’re addicted to movies. There is a route you could go that might cost money upfront, but is definitely a worthwhile investment: build a theater in your home.

But how? The how really isn’t all that hard. Here’s what you can do. Pick a room that you don’t use and clear it out. Then, you go out and buy good, comfortable furniture. Get a large screen and a projector. Get the proper lighting set up as well as the good surround sound. You can even get a popcorn machine in there if you want. By doing this, you’ve just created your own environment for movie watching.

Other people, though, like to go the extreme route and it’s probably what I’d do. If you have the space, build a room onto your house for this. That way, you can get the right acoustics installed in the room while it is being built. You can also prevent against windows being put in if you don’t want them. This gives you the most control. Building a room for movie watching is a really cool idea and I definitely suggest it. It allows you to stay home and you’re not spending so much a month on movie tickets, a movie you’ll only see once.
